WMW PASU 40/1 Automatic Punching Machine

The automatic punching machine punches serial parts out of sheet metal at a top speed. Modern automatic punching machines - such as those from TRUMPF or BRUDERER - can achieve up to 2,000 strokes per minute. While simple punching machines are used as stand-alone solutions, hydraulic or mechanical automatic punching machines are usually part of a production line. Such a line can integrate various sheet metal processing machines, including reels, coilers, straightening machines, presses, belt conveyors, etc. In this way, large quantities of stampings can be produced cost-effectively, as demanded by the automotive industry, for example. There is a great demand for automatic punching machines and other used machinery offered by Surplex.

A punching machine is a further variation of the processing machine, the punch. This is used for the separation of pieces made out of thin-walled materials. These are usually sheet metal, but can also be plastic or thin panels of wood, cardboard or paper.

  • A variation on the regular punch
  • Separation of thin materials
  • Often integrated into assembly lines

The difference between automatic punching machines and punches are that punching machines can run automatically and do not require manual operation. Punching machines are commonly integrated into an assembly line, but it is also possible for them to stand alone.

A punching machine triggers the punching process by inputting the material. Therefore, in addition to normal punches, a punching machine requires an insertion and release system. The type of insertion system can vary. For punching machines that stand alone, the raw material is often in strip form and placed in front of the machine. It is then continuously fed into the punch by a guide rail and stepping motor.

The use of raw material in strips has the advantage that excess material can be rolled up again, just like the raw material for the punching process was rolled up. This ensures efficient levels of recycling.

There are a large variety of further inputting systems, including the use of a robot arm, which is relatively complex. This is particularly useful for large, heavy and bulky material and punched products. For the undertaking of the punching process, there are a large variety of technologies available. The release mechanisms that are most used are simple pressure switches or light barriers.

Punching machines are particularly efficient, where the workpieces are too bulky and heavy for humans to handle them, or if particularly high outputs are required. Pneumatically operated punches can produce very high outputs, which would be highly inefficient with manual operation.

Punching machines are therefore the leader in terms of volume of production. Punching machines are also significantly safer than conventional punches. A disadvantage is their inability to notice small decreases in the quality of their products.

This reduction in quality could be caused by the gradual wear and tear of the punch, contamination or technical defects. Therefore, continual quality control is essential when operating a punching machine. The loading of a punching machine is relatively easy to learn and only requires basic training from a normal production worker. Most punching machines allow their tools to be switched; this can be undertaken by trained workers.

Established suppliers of punching machines are RASTER, LEINHANS, BIHLER, SCHÜCO, KAISER, BRUDERER und SCHAAL.
